Who we are

This website is run by Initiatives for Development Foundation (IDF), a public charitable trust registered in 2001 (Trust Registration No. 179/2001–02) and based in Bengaluru, Karnataka.

This page explains what personal information IDF handles through this website and by email, why, and the choices you have. We handle personal information in line with the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 and the Information Technology Act, 2000, and the rules made under them.

What this website collects

The website has no forms, user accounts, cookies, analytics or advertising. It does not track you across other websites.

  • Server records. Like every website, the servers that deliver these pages record technical details of each request, such as IP address, browser type, the page requested and the time. Our hosting provider, Cloudflare, uses these records to deliver the site and protect it from misuse. IDF does not use them to identify visitors.
  • Fonts. The site’s typefaces load from Google Fonts, so your browser connects to Google’s servers, which receive your IP address.

When you write to us

Personal information reaches IDF only when you choose to contact us, by email or phone. It may include your name, email address, phone number, organisation, and anything in your message or attachments, such as a CV.

We use it only to:

  • reply to you and send the publications or documents you ask for;
  • consider your application, if you apply for a role or to volunteer;
  • discuss a partnership you propose;
  • receive and acknowledge contributions, issue receipts, and meet the legal, tax and audit requirements that apply to them;
  • keep a record of our correspondence.

We do not sell, rent or trade personal information, and we do not add you to mailing lists without your agreement.

Who we share it with

  • Service providers that run our email and website – currently Zoho (email) and Cloudflare (hosting) – only to provide those services. Their servers may be outside India.
  • Banks, auditors and government authorities, where the law requires it, for example for contributions.
  • Programme or funding partners, only with your agreement.

How long we keep it

We keep personal information only as long as we need it for the purpose you contacted us for, or longer where the law requires, for example accounting and tax records of contributions. When it is no longer needed, we delete it.

Keeping it safe

We use reasonable safeguards: access is limited to IDF staff who need it, and we use service providers with recognised security practices. No way of sending or storing information online is completely secure, so please do not email sensitive documents unless we ask for them.

Your rights

You can ask us to:

  • tell you what personal information we hold about you and how we use it;
  • correct, complete or update it;
  • delete it, where we no longer need it and the law does not require us to keep it;
  • stop using it where you had given consent – this does not affect anything done before you withdraw;
  • deal with a person you nominate to act for you, if you are unable to act yourself.

Write to the Grievance Officer below. We will acknowledge your request and respond within the time the law allows. If you are not satisfied with our response, you may complain to the Data Protection Board of India.

Children

This website is meant for adults. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18 through it. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, write to us and we will delete it.
